Helen Garabedian, a certified Hatha yoga and pregnancy yoga teacher, was one of the first people to be certified as an infant developmental movement educator in the United States. She is the founder and president of Itsy Bitsy Yoga, through which she conducts classes, workshops, and training nationally. She lives with her toddler son in Sudbury, Massachusetts.

Great bonding with daughter

I purchased this book through amazon to use with my 2 (almost 3) year old daughter. She loves pulling out our yoga mat and doing the poses with me. It is a wonderful way for us to bond with eachother and spend some time together. The poses are easy enough for her to do well, and she feels proud of herself when I praise her for doing a great job. In the book, there is a picture of a child in each pose as well as an easy to understand description of how to do the pose. Each pose also has info from the child's point of view to tell you the benefits of that pose. There are different groupings of poses, so you can choose a routine specific for your child's needs, such as poses to do in the morning to stretch and wake the body, or poses that help a toddler having a tantrum, or poses to help your child build balance, etc. There are extra tips in each pose from Helen, the author in a section called "On the Go with Helen". I am finding the routines easy to remember after doing only one time. So I won't have to sit and stare at the book the whole time every time we do yoga. Once we get it down, we will just use it as a reference.

a nice follow up to the first one

i bought this to have the follow up for itsy bitsy yoga for infants. it follows in the spirit of the first book and it does great.

it doesn't say though how to slow down a toddler long enough for yoga but i guess i have to figure that one out.

if you liked the first one, you'll like this one. save yourself the hassle and get the together if you can.

In this compelling analysis of 20th-century art and architecture, presented from the perspective of Taylor's deconstructionist theology (as seen in his Erring: A Postmodern A/theology , Univ. of Chicago, 1987), the development of the art and architecture of the modern period is discussed in terms of a series of "disfigurings." For example, the abstract art of Kandinsky, Mondrian, and Reinhardt is seen as part of a strategy to express the Absolute through the removal of this-worldly representational (i.e., figurative) elements. Taylor is excellent in his detailed analysis of the philosophical and religious motives that contributed to the creation of the works studied. He uses the terms religious and spiritual in the abstract sense of the German Idealists, whose "theoesthetics," detailed in the first chapter, forms the philosophical backdrop for the subsequent chapters. This book covers much the same territory as Doug Adams's Transcendence with Human Body in Art ( LJ 10/1/91), though in much greater depth and clarity of analysis. Highly recommended for art, architecture, and religion collections.

disfiguring as a continuation of Taylor's previous work

If you are reading Disfiguring to get a survey of art in the 20th century, you are, for a lack of a better word, misreading Taylor's meditation on the connections between art,architecture and religion. Taylor discusses the development of European artistic modernism and its relation to philosophical and theosophical issues to reveal their interlacing connection with one another. Modernism stems, Taylor argues, from German Idealism and its attempt to totalize the world in a promise of a better life. This, combined with theosophy--a mystical, universalizing type of religion--are from the outset at the heart of modernism and modern art. He consequently expands on this position and follows its development up to the present period. Taylor appears to view the creation of art and architecture as being fundamentally religious acts. If this is the case, what does modernism say about who we are in the West? Taylor claims commodification and an obssessive fascination with the rational seem to be a part of what modern art says the West worships. As a "post-modernist" thinker, Taylor examines how we can live religiously without the totalizing claims of modernism, the violence that often comes with a society bent on rationalizing the world, and the deepening relationship between money and identity...He lays out a few suggestions and dicusses how some artists and architects are struggling with the fractured--the torn--condition of the West. A rupturing of the state of affairs in a modernist culture, he appears to say, is not a bad thing--it's maybe even necessary in order for us to understand "spirit" apart from some of the objectives of modernism. This is a remarkable book.

Wonderful Romantic Adventure by Ashe Barker

Once I started this marvelous book I couldn't put it down. I won't give details about the story as its layed out very well in the overview. It had amazing insights into the main characters feelings and emotions as well as the interesting secondary characters. It's a page turner that I didn't want to end but when it did, I was compleatly satisfied with the ending. There are elements of BDSM, mystery, suspence, danger, spanking and a beautiful romance. I was given an advanced reader copy for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book!! What a great story!! Victoria is such a strong woman, by necessity unfortunately, but she more then holds her own in her attempt to take care of her mother and sister. I have to say I didn't care for Adam at the beginning of their 'relationship', however as the story progressed he more than redeemed himself. Great book!! I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy.

great tension and lots of heat!

Great read! I'll start by saying that Ashe Barker has clearly done her homework; the book feels completely at ease in the setting, and all the details make you believe you're living in the world and times of past years. Victoria and Adam have a fiercely powerful sexual tension going from the very beginning. I admired the way Ms. Barker developed the characters and their dominant/submissive relationship. Rather than have it be a simple, "do this because I own you" dictate from Adam, she went into the psychology behind the desires to submit and dominate, and made the power exchange fluid and believable between two people who enjoy it. I also love that she had Victoria enter into the relationship because she fully wanted it, and that there WAS a choice -- it makes the whole dynamic more realistic and enjoyable. I won't give away the plot, but I will say that the steamy scenes are OH MY GOD hot.

More than just a translation.

I fell in love with a Yogini statue at the Nelson Atkins museum in Kansas City. There are a few of them in the US. But they dont have much information about them. After alot of searching for information about them I found this book.
This book is so well written and researched. Many books, even translations, about Eastern beliefs are skewed by western prejudices. They translate eastern non dualistic beliefs and practices with western dualist eyes. By doing so they loose the meaning and beauty of those beliefs.
This book is obviously written by someone who has tried, with great respect and humility, to translate this ancient work in a way that is true to the culture it has come from.
This book gives alot of historical context as well. Which is a huge help.
It is also wonderful that it is on kindle. I will be reading and rereading this book for a long time to come.

The book highlights some of the more well known quotes from the bible. The text is broken down into subjects areas which highlight personal needs for quick reference. Easy to read and wonderful for the soul. A book which all will appreciate and be touched by.

An encouraging book and wonderful gift for those going through trials.

My family was given this book when my mother was dying of cancer. Since that time, I have no idea how many times I've opened it up again and browsed through it. The version I have is leather bound, and has thin pages like those you'd find in a Bible. It came in a box, which has helped it stay nice through the years. I personally would recommend buying the leather edition rather than the paperback; It makes a better looking, more sturdy gift.

I have so often used this book when trying to think of appropriate verses to add to the letters and cards I send to others. I plan to buy a couple copies to give to people who are going through trials right now.

For the most part the verses are organized in a helpful manner, and I enjoy reflecting on them when I feel discouraged, anxious, etc. There are 9 sections, with numerous sub-sections. For example, under the section titled "Jesus is Your ...", some of the subsections are "Savior", "Lord", "Love", etc. Other sections include: The Bible is Your ... What to Do When You Feel... What to Do When You Are ... What To Do When ... What the Bible Has to Say About ... Truth From the Bible About ... What You Can Do To ... God's Plan for Salvation.

Personally, my husband and I believe that a few of the verses, especially those found in the sections relating to Physical Sickness and Finanical Trouble, are not always applicable to us today. In some cases, they are taken out of context. (We are not promised that He will physically heal our ailments today the way Jesus and his disciples healed people while on Earth.) However, I would not let those few verses deter me from giving this as a gift.

About the Author

Prof John Vince began working in computer graphics at Middlesex Polytechnic in 1968. His research activities centered on computer animation software and resulted in the PICASO and PRISM animation systems. Whilst at Middlesex, he designed the UK’s first MSc course in Computer Graphics, and developed a popular program of short courses in computer animation for television designers. In 1986 he joined Rediffusion Simulation as a Research Consultant and worked on the development of real-time computer systems for commercial flight simulators. In 1992 he was appointed Chief Scientist of Thomson Training Simulation Ltd. In 1995 he was appointed Professor of Digital Media at the National Centre for Computer Animation at Bournemouth University, and in 1999 he was made Head of Academic Group for Computer Animation. He was awarded a DSc by Brunel University in recognition of his work in computer graphics. He has written and edited over 40 books on computer graphics, computer animation and virtual reality, including the following Springer titles:

Formula Book

This book is well-written and seems to have no typos in this Mathematical Formula Notebook. The book's first chapter pulls-in the reader very well and chapters 1 thru 8 brought back my Calculus 151,152, and 153 courses. Chapter 9 and 10 are the "money" chapters that allow for the title of this book. The next-to final chapter 11 deals in volumes which seem to be missing in most computer games. The author seems to limited himself as the book could be improved by an appendix with a formal treatment of "infinitesimals". Chapters 9, dealings with arcs, Chapter 10, needs more matrix, and Chapter 12, vectors, are all fifteen to twenty pages too short which gives this book its "money" title. It is still a very good Mathematical Formula Notebook, but let buyers beware there is no computer code of any kind.

About the Author
Frank Meyers has been playing, repairing, studying, collecting and researching guitars since the 1990s. His passion for guitars was ignited with his first electric guitar, a 1963 Japanese Fujigen EJ2. Since then, he has documented the stories and histories of hundreds of other early bizarre, off-brand guitars, has written numerous articles for publications (including Premier Guitar and Japanese Music Trades) and his own website www.DrowninginGuitars.com. Frank lives with his family in the rolling hills of Eastern Pennsylvania.

Nice book for the really old stuff.

You want this book to have Orville, Greco, Burny ,Navigator and the rest .But guess what, it doesn't have any of them. If you are into the oddball 60 s stuff that mostly played like crap then yea, this is the book for you. It is well written just make sure you are buying it for the right models.

Unexpected Greatness....

I was definitely not prepared for what I was getting with this book! I'm used to guitar books with one glossy, high res pic of a single guitar per page and a brief couple of paragraphs. This book has wonderful pictures taken from advertising, shots for the book as well as historical pictures from the guitar firms themselves.

The writing is outstanding and this book is a fantastic chronicle for someone that had no idea Japan had played such an integral part of the music revolution. I look at these guitars through very different eyes now and I'm guessing this will create a collectors market (if it doesn't already exist) for these beautiful instruments.

I highly recommend this book, it cannot be perused or read in a few hours. The pictures alone gobble up a lot of time. The histories and back stories will drive you to Google to look for more info as well.

My only wish is for a second book! Maybe something in collaboration with Deke Dickerson: Frank could call it "Teisco in the Attic". I'm sure that between the production in Japan and the demand in the US and around the world, there are many stories yet to be told about these wonderful guitars.

This book and the wonderful guitars it contains reminds me of a quote from the movie Ratatouille: "Not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist *can* come from *anywhere*. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more." It is difficult to imagine more unpretententious origins than the guitars, men and women contained in this book yet it is likely they could be some of the most innovative instruments ever produced and most assuredly this book has left me hungry for more.

The greatest book of it's kind

This is just an incredible book. Frank Meyers has put so much time and research into this book and it really shows. This is the definitive reference for vintage Japanese guitars. If you want to know more about these great instruments, this is essential reading.
