About the Author

Steve Duck taught in the United Kingdom before taking up the Daniel and Amy Starch Distinguished Research Chair in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Iowa.� He has been a professor of communication studies, an adjunct professor of psychology, a former Dean’s Administrative Fellow and is now Chair of the Rhetoric Department. He has taught interpersonal communication courses, mostly on relationships but also on nonverbal communication, communication in everyday life, construction of identity, communication theory, organizational leadership, and procedures and practices for leaders. More recently he has taught composition, speaking and rhetoric, especially for STEM students. By training an interdisciplinary thinker, Steve has focused on the development and decline of relationships, although he has also done research on the dynamics of television production techniques and persuasive messages in health contexts. Steve has written or edited 60 books on relationships and other matters and was the founder and, for the first 15 years, the Editor of the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. His�book Meaningful Relationships: Talking, Sense, and Relating won the G. R. Miller Book Award from the Interpersonal Communication Division of the National Communication Association. Steve co-founded a series of international conferences on personal relationships. He won the University of Iowa’s first Outstanding Faculty Mentor Award in 2001 and the National Communication Association’s Robert J. Kibler Memorial Award in 2004 for “dedication to excellence, commitment to the profession, concern for others, vision of what could be, acceptance of diversity, and forthrightness.” He was the 2010 recipient of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Helen Kechriotis Nelson Teaching Award for a lifetime of excellence in teaching and in the same year was elected one of the National Communication Association’s Distinguished Scholars. He hopes to sit on the Iron Throne and be famous.

David T. McMahan has taught courses that span the discipline of communication, including numerous courses in interpersonal communication and personal relationships, media and technology, communication education, theory, and criticism. McMahan’s research interests also engage multiple areas of the discipline with much of his research devoted to bridging the study of relationships, technology, and media. This work encompasses discussions of media and technology in everyday communication, the incorporation of catchphrases and media references in everyday communication, and the relational aspects of the Internet and digital media.� His diverse research experiences also include studies on symbolic displays of masculinity and violence in rural America, media-based political transformations of the world’s nation-states, the reporting of mass-murder suicide in The New York Times, and primetime animated series. In addition to authoring numerous books, his work has appeared in such journals as Review of Communication, Communication Education, and Communication Quarterly, as well as edited volumes.� A tremendously-active member of the discipline, McMahan’s endeavors include serving on a number of editorial review boards, serving as editor of the Iowa Journal of Communication, and serving as president of the Central States Communication Association.� He has also received multiple awards for his work in the classroom and has been the recipient of a number of public service and academic distinctions, including being named a Centennial Scholar by the Eastern Communication Association. He hopes to someday win the singles championship at Wimbledon.

About the Author
Professor Joseph Muscat graduated at the University of Oxford and obtained his Ph.D. from Princeton University with a thesis on the Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equation on curved space-time. He has written several papers on the applications of functional analysis to inverse problems in the biomedical field and is a co-author of the novel ACSP method in EEG signal processing.

An excellent, in depth, treatment of this topic. Her framework addresses "core activities within a task landscape," ie, dealing with large amounts of information, finding your way through the analysis & making sense of the results. Then she presents case studies applying this framework to different fields, including the design of a visualization tool.

About the Author
The author is a professor in the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he teaches atmospheric physics and remote sensing to undergraduate meteorology majors and graduate students. His research specialties include satellite microwave remote sensing of rainfall and other atmospheric variables, as well as radiative transfer modeling in three-dimensional clouds.

Excellent book!

An excellent introductory book on atmospheric radiation that fills a previously huge void in the books available on this topic. Written in a style that differs from any textbook I've ever experienced. The book covers a wide spectrum of issues related to atmospheric radiation, but doesn't overwhelm the reader in the process. Practical examples and applications of the theories and ideas presented abound. A very refreshing...dare I say enjoyable...scientific book.

Masterful Exposition

This is among the best scientific textbooks I have read. I wish I could give it six stars. There are interesting points scattered throughout the book, I even got a couple of new perspectives from an early chapter on electromagnetism. The section on radiative heating and cooling due to trace gases (Chapter 10) particularly grabbed me, because of its implications for Global Warming (excuse me, Climate Change). I liked the book so much I even read the Appendix, and sure enough, there was an interesting discussion of the rigorously correct but counterintuitive and computationally troublesome Extinction Paradox. A thouroughly excellent book.

Perfect book for an introductory level

This book was used in my graduate atmospheric radiation class. It was far supperior to the book used in my undergrad class (wallace and hobbs introduction to atmospheric sciences) not that W&H was a bad book but this book is much more focused since it is not as broad as W&H book.

Good aspects of this book is that it starts with a good fundemental background before it delves into the real meat of the course (being radiative calculations for both long wave and short wave theory). The book is very easy to read for someone with introductory knowledge of radiative theory and is not much tougher without this introductory knowledge. The figures are clear and concise and the topics are well organized.

Downfall of this book is the excersices presented to reinforce topics. Most of the excercises are just plug and chug or are descriptive problems that really only require one to read the previous section. more problems and problems that require more thinking would be benificial but the author already aknowledges that this was a week point of the book.

Over all the book was written very well and was easy to understand. It is a great tool for anyone interested in atmospheric radiation, either on an introductory level or as a complement to ones library. Given the other books available for a course on radiation this one ranks near or on the top.

And as a University of Oklahoma Meteorology alumni, I must say, Boomer Sooner.

Melissa J. Morgan started going to sleep away camp when she was eight years old and didn't stop until her first job after grad school refused her request for eight weeks of summer vacation. She's since quit that job to become a full-time author. The only reason she didn't go back to camp is that her husband refused to join her. Melissa lives in New York with him and Bugle, their Chocolate Lab.

Cute Light-Read!

I bought this book a while back when I was horribly sick and really in the mood for a cute little book that would make me smile. And yes, I did get just what I wanted.

Natalie cringes at the thought of going to camp this summer- she wants to board the next plane home and forget this even happened. And when she gets there, for a while, she's even more dismayed at the thought of actually staying at the camp for very long. She wants her friends and her air-conditioned house. But when she actually lets herself have fun and warm up to her cabin-mates, she finds that camp is probably the most fun she's ever had. She meets some great girls and their friendships are just what she needs to get through her camp experience. Natalie discovers herself along the way, and in the end, doesn't want to leave.

This book was a real page-turner, although I can't say I was ready to pounce on the sequel. I enjoyed it though, and would recommend it to anyone in the mood for a cute book that will make you smile and maybe even laugh out loud.

Camp Confidential-and so it began!

Girly and a little stotty teenager. Mom sends to camp build character. Makes new friends. Meets a cute boy... And there's the twist! Sounds familiar? Well, I personally thought the book was a little too predictable and familiar, but it was very enjoyable and light to read. I find myself continually reading this over and over again because it's nice to read it just for fun! Yeah, yeah... It might sometimes be just that book about being a teenager and how it should relate to other girls out there, but it really isn't that bad! It isn't bad at all! Maybe it doesn't teach you hard vocabulary or teach you a strong lesson, but I still loved it! Recommend it to all who want a short book to read with your friends!

She will meet new friends, and even a boy that she has a crush on. I could not stop reading this book, every page has a new twist, and it was a definite page turner! Comedy is more serious than tragedy

Northrop Frye is one of the greatest Shakespeare critics of all time (and there have been many). For those who think comedy is a trivial art form, this book will change your mind. Comedy is more serious than tragedy, and Frye illuminates not only Shakespeare's comedies but all comedy. He shows why Shakespeare's comedies are just as important, if not more important, than his tragedies because they pave the way for the romances which are the culmination of Shakespeare's work. The comedies and romances reveal the bounty and plentitude of life, and expose the basic illusions that keep a community from flourishing. They are a celebration of life. Any lover of Shakespeare will be in awe of Frye's admiration for the Bard and the joy he takes in writing about him. No reader can come away from this experience without a deeper appreciation of the greatest writer of all time.

Outstanding guy's guide to Pattaya. The author gets straight down to business and writes in a no-frills, immediate style that puts you right there on the ground with him. He doesn't skimp on info, covering everything from getting in and out of a Pattaya bus to negotiating the finer points of taking a bar girl home. Invaluable resource for anyone planning a trip to the adult's Disneyland in Thailand.

Great for those new to Pattaya

This was a good read. Well written with lots of details. It's the perfect guide for a newbie planning a trip to Pattaya. Out of the other Pattaya travel guides I've read, this was the most informative. I enjoyed his writing style and reading this book; although I didn't learn anything new for myself. I've spent too much time there for that. He goes into a lot of detail that others don't. Details that a new traveler would want to know before going.

Great Reference book

Great book for anyone intending to visit Pattaya. I wish I had found it before my first trip. Neil has described the town and the activities very well .Easy to follow with subjects well broken down into chapters. When I go back in a few weeks I will take this with me as a reference.
